Wedding of BlackWidow & Mr.Christian Archives

The wedding for Black Widow and Mr. Christian, both of the Britannia Search & Rescue Guild, took place Thursday, April 9th, 1998. Scheduling confusion delayed the ceremony until around 11:30 pm Eastern Time/8:30 pm Pacific Time. Two Counselors, Counselor Glamdring and Counselor Creo, stopped by the BS&R Operations Center-Trinsic to pay their respects prior to the ceremony. Counselor Creo was able to attend the wedding, as was the notable Lord Conrad.

Although many were instrumental to the success of the wedding I would like to give special thanks to Bremen, who gave important last minute assistance.

The following is a brief description of the days events, from the perspective of Nobody, Guildmaster of the BS&R.

“Early in the evening Bremen and I called out to those great beings known as “Counselors,” that we might have some last minute advice from these divine demi-powers. We were greeted by two such beings: Counselor Glamdring and Counselor Creo. They spoke to us of other such bondings, and the words of love between brides and grooms across Britannia. They wished to return for the ceremony, and were were twice honored.

“As the prescribed time fast approached our members and guests gathered. There was mingling as old friends met and new ones were met. In their excitement some of the guild engaged in a little horseplay. Mock combats ensued, and there were polymorphing pranks and other such wondrous magicks.

“The appointed time came and went, and the bride, Black Widow, had still not arrived. I grew nervous and concerned, as did we all. I looked to busy myself and the groom, Mr. Christian, with trivial matters.

“Ultimax, our Guild Trainer, made an appearance. Brash and showy, he pushed his way past the crowds to the groom, Mr. Christian. Paying his respects, he mingled with the crowd, tossing good-natured insults hand-in-hand with impromptu training exercises. Through his efforts the crowd was kept occupied, unable  to focus on the worrying matters at hand. I confided my concerns to PapaMan, father of the bride.

“At long last the bride arrived, and the final, last minute, preparations were completed. Of course, as she changed from her adventuring clothes to her bridal gown, one last problem: her own ring was stuck on her finger. PapaMan and myself tried to help, but to no avail. Counselor Creo, having returned for the ceremony, also tried to assist. Eventually, after several nerve-wracking minutes, the ring came off and she was ready. Everyone was ready.

“But not really. A special guest was still to show. Conrad, a Lord of some note, was moments away from the Operations Center. He soon arrived, and the wedding began.

“I wrote the ceremony—although I did have some small help from a book I once read called ‘Don Quixote.’ All onlookers were touched by the vows of the bride and groom. They spoke true, touching the hearts of all who listened.

“The reception was even more rambunctious than the pre-wedding chaos. The reception was rivaled in good cheer only by our Holiday Feast of last year. Revelry and ribaldry ran hand-in-hand that night through our blessed event.

“Our laughter was stopped by the entrance of an Orc Mage. The uninvited guest immediately attacked me. Not having armor, reagents, nor a weapon of any sort, I feared that I would perish from lack of preparation. Unpreparedness, drunkenness, or distractions were not enough to keep the BS&R from mobilizing to my aid. The brash Orc Mage was quickly dispatched, his belongings presented to the bride and groom for their troubles. Nearby Hell Hounds and more Orcs approached, but a small squad of heroes went out to deal with their menace, leaving the rest of us to return to our joyous occasion.

“After a time the crowd thinned, bidding farewell and good tidings to the newlyweds. As an afterthought Black Widow threw her bouquet behind her to the remaining guests. I caught it, much to my personal embarrassment. Most of the guests were gone, and cries of help once more broke into our conversation. Lord Charoo of Baja ran into our group, being chased by Lizard Men. The evil swamp-dwellers were quickly made short work of by the remaining wedding party and other stragglers. Lord Charoo was grateful for our help.

“We soon dispersed, each going their own way, toward our own destinies. The bride and groom on their honeymoon, PapaMan to his home, and me to my intended pilgrimage to the Shrines. I have included with this documentation a list of all who attended the wedding ceremony, along with a transcript of the ceremony itself. Images of the wedding are forthcoming. I appreciate all who helped in planning and execution, and was grateful for all who attended the marriage of Black Widow and Mr. Christian.”
