I use Movable Type to manage the comic strip and news publishing for Local Heroes, but I really had to massage MT to do what I want for that site. What would I have done if I had to go another way?
I supposed I could have gone with a free hosting service like Keenspace and it's in-place online comic publishing system. But there's some free publishing scripts out there that I might have tried first.
There's something very appealing about Comic Gallery. It's only one file, is really simple to use, and is PHP based (which I can fiddle with to help me learn PHP scripting). In fact, I fiddled a little with the innards of Comic Gallery 1.1 to display my old A Girl and Her Wookiee strips and the related news articles (both originally from SWG Stratics), and you can see the results here.
