One day a year, participating direct-sales comic shops give out participating comics for free, to help stimulate comic industry growth. For this year, that day is today.
This is the third year in a row that Free Comic Book Day has occured. The larger comic companies tend to give away introductory "jumping on point" books, while smaller, independent companies give away normal issues or promo anthologies. Not ever comic or shop is involved, but it's a big enough todoo that it's a good bet your local comic dealer has some freebies waiting for you.
