But I really wanted a monkey…!

I like monkeys.

I've had a few pets in my life: gerbil, turtle, cats, dogs. But, even as a young kid, I've always considered that a monkey would be the ultimate pet.

Specifically, a spider monkey seemed to be the perfect sidekick — I was, no doubt, properly influenced by early Our Gang shorts.

I liked both King Kong movies, Mighty Joe Young, the Planet of the Apes films — I know these were more about apes and not monkeys per se, but they still appealed to my fascination with primates of all types.

I've never known anyone with with a monkey, and never even seriously looked into buying one, but I also never let go of the dream. A few minutes ago I absently looked through a Web site called Monkey-Island.net that detailed all the reasons why someone shouldn't own a monkey, and it just made too much sense. My dream is faded.

Oh, I'll still have a soft spot in my heart for simians, and I won't be passing up any monkey-movies. Let's not get too crazy.

Paul wants a pig.

I would imagine a little pot-bellied pig would be far closer than a monkey to the affection and convenience that a dog might offer.

You know, since I moved, I actually wondered if I should look into getting a pig. Or a sugar flyer. Hm...I seem to really like the thought of owning an exotic pet. Maybe I should bit the bullet and just get a zebra. :]

If you're getting a zebra, you're probably going to want a bigger balcony...

No, really!

Pot-bellied pigs are very intelligent animals. They are not, however, friendly, and you cannot tell which ones will stay small when you buy them when they are piglets. I speak from personal experience, as my father and step-mother have two pigs that weigh over two hundred pounds, are very territorial, and moderately aggressive.
