It doesn't matter that I use the same detergent and fabric softner. It doesn't matter that I separate the whites from the colors, and use water of different temperatures. Even though I may use the exact same technique, my laundry will never, ever, be as soft and fluffy as when Mom does it. That's just the way the universe wants it.
