The Invitation

Submitted Wednesday, April 15, 1998, via the BS&R Message Board by PapaMan

Hello all,

I have two things of interest which I would like to share with you. The first is the subject of guild wars. I would like to side with Argon. I do not believe that the goals and theme of BS&R supports this type of activity. I do not want to have to be constantly looking over my shoulder even in town.

Now for something cool. Black Widow and I went to a meeting in Trinsic last night at the home of Lord Conrad. It seems that Lord Conrad is setting up a quest this coming friday evening at 8:30 pm on the baja shard. There is a convoy which will be carrying food and other items stolen from the population of Brittania which is to be delivered to the guards of Minoc.

The quest of Lord Conrad involves intercepting this convoy and retaking the stolen items. There will be magic users and swordsman and archers in the caravan escort and according to Lord Conrad, they will be far tougher than the normal run of the mill monsters we are accustomed to. I took a screen shot of the meeting which I can post if there is enough interest.

If you are interested in this quest, there will be a meeting at the home of Lord Conrad on thursday at about 10:30 pm to discuss and receive further details. Lord Conrads house directly East of the Old Trinsic bank. This is the very house where I was sworn into the BS&R these many months ago. There are two statues at the front door and the sign clearly says Lord Conrads house.. all times are PST.

Black Widow and I will be there and if any of you are interested, I am certain you would be welcome. Lord Conrad told me as much when I ask him if I could bring along a friend or two I knew of who were of great honor and courage.

I guess I am also getting the longest post award but it is not my intent. he he.. come if you can or I will try to post an update early Friday to keep you all informed of the progress of this quest.

Argon Reviews the Meeting with Lord Conrad

Submitted Friday, April 17, 1998, via the BS&R Message Board by Argon

The meeting with Conrad was interesting. Apparently some person of unknown ranking is trying to start a war. His name is Lee and he has apparently amassed some troops to work for him.

There will be a caravan carrying war supplies (stolen, apparently) that will be travelling the roads tonight. Lord Conrad wants to stop the caravan. He made no mention of what to do with the spoils.

Lord Conrad was clear that allowing the caravan to succeed will not "serve justice".

Somehow the Order and Chaos guards are involved, but that was not made clear. I suspect Lee is trying to start an all-out war between the two.

The men guarding the caravan are known to all be evil. No innocents will be involved.

Lord Conrad also made it quite clear he preferred a small strike force. Get in and out quick. So many people showed, that just his Justice Guard (is that right?) would make for a considerable force. I don't know if he plans to limit the participants tomorrow.

After the meeting, we went to the entrance of Despise where Conrad then left with his Justice Guards. There were too many people and BS&R got split away from Lord Conrad. We went to Wrong, but broke up shortly thereafter as some overenthusiastic nut tried to lure us into a pk trap attacking his LOD buddies with too small a force. Sigh.

Tonight should be interesting unless I (we?) end up having to sit this one out.

(Time to break out that word-counter on this post)

Nobody Expresses Concerns

Submitted Friday, April 17, 1998, via the BS&R Message Board by Nobody

I will be there, if my schedule allows, for I will not sit still while innocent children starve. Lord Conrad has told us this much, and some information about this "Lee" person. While I appreciate the excitement that battle offers, I am concerned that Conrad views on this matter are slanted.

Lord Conrad hates the Order Guard and the Chaos Guard. He states this repeatedly in any conversation. He further states that they war for no reason. And yet, he is all to willing to have a "Justice Guard" join in their war, with the intention of eliminating them all. We all know Virtue Guards who are not honorable, but many are. Many of us are this way. While I care not for labels, it seems this is all Lord Conrad cares for, and the fact that food has been stolen from children is incidental.

I am here to help, not to hate. I want to be there to help regain from the caravan what does not belong to them, AND RETURN IT TO THE RIGHTFUL OWNERS. I am concerned, however, that some, if not all, of the caravaned goods may not be returned to whence they came, perhaps to finance a private war with the Virtue Guards.

Semper Cuius. It means Forever Virtuous. To follow the path of the Avatar, all Virtues must receive equally strong consideration. To favor one is to slight the rest. To favor Justice is to reduce the remainder to lesser status. Shall we show less Humility? Shall we reduce our Honesty? Shall any Virtue stand to the side as we enforce only "Justice?" I ask you, what is Justice without Compassion? It is a singular state of being that I cannot subscribe to in good conscience. I bid you, have a care as you adventure alongside zealots.

After the Battle: Black Widow

Submitted Saturday, April 18, 1998, via the BS&R Message Board by Black Widow

Hail BS&R:

Tonight, I was truly impressed with the turn out from our guild. We were even given our own attack force to be seperated from the rest. Twas an honor indeed! Many of us gather together in front of Lord Conrads house. After a motivations speech by Lord Conrad, and a thorough inspection by our guildmaster, we did continue on towards our goal. Alas there were attempts to sway us from our cause. First someone did gate us to Jhelom, this was not our destination, and a few were lost on the way to the Capital of Britain, our true stopping point. From Britain, BS&R did separate from the rest, and form our own attack party.

We did follow our illustrious guild master towards the swamps out of Britain. There we met the foul group. Lee the leader was encased in a suit of Red armor. After much fighting the thieves were eliminated. They were much more powerful, than any person I have ever encountered before. And did truly put up a good fight. In the end Justice was victorious. Unfortunatly there were those with no honor who did accompany us. Those who died were promptly looted. I did return a few souls to their bodies, alas, I could not return their items. They also did stage war upon the horses, and attempt to kill them, much to my own horror. Lord Conrad attacked them and I tried to follow suite, but they quickly ran away. They had as much courage as they did honor.

After much confusion and some regrouping, Lord Conrad said he no longer need our aid. I with fears instilled by our wise guild leader, followed him thru the gate... To his home, much to my surprise. It seems our leaders fears were not unfounded. In fact, Lord Conrad lead the horses inside his house. I quickly followed after to question the Lords motives, alas, the door was slammed in my face. I waited outside his house, until he did come back out. From there I questioned him stating that his house was definately not a farm, and was quite far from the Jhelom farms we did earlier visit. He said, "You Black Widow, you question my motives? Then you return the goods." At this point I was honored and horrified both at the same moment, twas an honor to serve the people in such a way, yet also quite a burden to bear. I then questioned him, as to whether there would be a farmer to transfer the horses to. He told me there would not be, and to redistribute the items to the people as I saw fit. Quickly I fed the horses, for I did not after all of our fighting and the bloodshed, to have the horse decide to run free. Then I headed on my way to Jhelom, to the farms where the Caravan did come from. Alas, Lord Conrad was correct there was no farmer there. There was but one person, whom I did send on his way well fed, and equiped. From there I traveled the land giving things to people, and leaving once too large of a crowd did gather, and greed over came all else. In Ocllo, I eventually met up with Papaman, and a friend, Gunner. They helped me distribute what was left. We headed to Vesper and then Minoc to give the horses to Miners. While in Minoc we even happened upon a thief who did steal from Gunner. Gunner had the priviledge to kill him. I was quite happy to see justice served so many timse in one day. It took me a few hours, but finally everything was given away. We even instructed a few in the proper care of horses, so they would not run from their new found masters. I can vouch, that every cent crumb, crate, and horse was returned to the people of Britiannia, for I gave all of it away myself. Papaman did request I transfer one to him so he could aid me, but I did not feel comfortable shrugging my duty so easily even though I knew it would still be accomplished.

It truly was a tiring day, so I did retire to our Keep for some rest. Today, it was an honor to fight alongside all those who did accompany us. (BS&R that is) We fought well, and few died. We do still need to work on our tactics and keep tight formations, keeping to one target and following them to their death.

Semper Cuius friends,
And long live the Virtues,

Lady Black Widow

After the Battle: Bremen

In reading of the adventures and concerns of our guildmaster and fellow guildmates, I must say that: damn, we are a smooth guild. Stepping back and looking at what is going on, we see that not only are we taking major steps in becoming true role players, but also we are acting true to our guild and self in all that we do. The actions of this guild continue to amaze me, and I am indeed proud to call myself a member. From the strong and thoughtful leadership of our guildmaster...to the sefless acts I have witnessed over and over again by guildmembers helping others in need, this guild has truly accomplished what it has set out to do: become true followers of the virtues. And most importantly, we have FUN!!!!!! It is truly a pleasure.........

After the Battle: PapaMan

Submitted Saturday, April 18, 1998, via the BS&R Message Board by PapaMan

I would like to add my input from the battle as I was there with a unique situation. I went soley to serve as a healer and observer. Before the battle I stocked up with 75 of each reagent to insure that no one would go un aided it it were in my power to help them.

I was fortunate enough to be able to aid many of our members although in spite of my best efforts, I saw one of our comrads fall. Ualther went down under a barrage of arrows from one of the evil ones. I healed him twice but he was still quickly dispatched. I was also able to heal Lord Conrad himself at one point in the battle.

There did come a point where I was forced to take up my arms and defend myself and this I did reluctantly as I was then unable to help others. I was attacked by none other than Reif himself. He was one of the leaders and wore Red armor. As we battled, some one of my many friends in BS&R cast a healing spell over me and I wish to thank them. I regret I do not know who came to my aid. It was not long after Reif and I fought that his life and strength began to ebb and he ran off into the croud. I dropped my weapon and touched off a lightning bolt which caused him a little more damage. Somehow he was able to find help and was healed.

That is the last I saw of Reif although Gunner, a friend of Black Widow, was chasing him to the very end. Unfortunately, Reif did manage to escape through some form of trickery.

Not long after the battle was finished I saw some of the horses being attacked and one person in particular who was attacking the horses was none other than Levrion, one of Conrads own Justice Guard. I ran over to put a stop to this and Levrion then left the area.

It was very unfortunate that some of our members sacrificed their lives in this Just cause. I was able to save a few items as I was very near the center of the fray at many times. One of the evil ones died as I used my magery and fell at my feet. I was able to get a couple of items from this one. As you may be curuious, the one I killed was wearing plate armor and I retrieved a helmet and a breast plate as well as some female armor. There was nothing special about any of the items this character was carrying.

In the end, I was able to retrieve some of the items belonging to Ualther, and a bow belonging to Arch Angel of the Justice Guard. I offered the helm and plate to Mattoch of the Justice Guard but he refused them. I then found other worthy players and donated the items to them. For myself, I took nothing except the honor of being able to help. After the battle I followed the Justice Guard to their home in Trinsic. It is an interesting place as this is the same place I was sworn into BS&R these many months ago. After standing outside the door for a while, and witnessing the confrontation between Black Widow and Conrad, I was invited into the home. There was a table set up in the meeting room and I took a seat there.

In this meeting Lord Conrad asked me for my input on the battle. I was honored to stand in for Nobody and Mr. Christian and gave Lord Conrad my honest impressions. Like I would do anything else... I told him that it was a glorious battle and that it was good that we were victorious. I also told him of my efforts to heal and aid where ever I could and how I was hampered at times by the mass of the crowd.

There was concern expressed throughout the group about the problems with looting of those who died. Lord Conrad also expressed a good deal of emotion about the encounter with our own Lady Black Widow, whom he now refers to as Gift of Heaven. I told him I did not doubt him as I personally saw him sacrifice his own honor to protect the very horses in question. Still he was very much concerned. He expressed doubts in himself saying that perhaps he had sent too many men to their deaths and had grown used to have them all bend immediately to his will. Being questioned on his honor was indeed a slap in his face. He took it well enough but I could see that it went deeply into his soul. I think we may see some new side to Lord Conrad in the coming days.

I can say without reservation that BS&R fought bravely and with unquestioned honor in the battle. My only regret is that we were unable to do more in the aiding of those who were killed and looted. Perhaps in the future we will be able to perform this task better.

After the Battle: “Caravan of War Supplies Ambushed”

Local News of the Town Cryer, Saturday, April 18, 1998

Caravan of War Supplies Ambushed
Nurren Vedd Shaenor

UP: Baja

A caravan loaded with supplies left Britain with the destination of Minoc. A destination that they did not reach. Just scant leagues from the outskirts of the king’s city, the caravan was savagely attacked. The marauders were lead by one calling himself Lord Conrad. And he was heard to rally his “Justice Guards” to the attack. The escort of the caravan fought valiantly but were far too out numbered to have any real chance of success. Such a vicious attack and supposedly in the name of “justice.”

Hold… I am now receiving word that it was actually the caravan that sided with the unvirtuous. Apparently a highly ranked official within the virtue guards hired a band of mercenaries to transport contraband to Minoc. These supplies were gained through the sweat and blood of peasants. These peasants were asked by agents of this official to help supply the virtue guards. Rallying them with cries of “Honor” and “Virtue” the peasants worked long hours and gave everything to this official. The supplies were then to be taken to Minoc. The name of this official is as yet unknown.

Lord Conrad discovered the doings of the virtue guard official while talking to some of the peasants. He quickly realized that their innocence and virtue was being taken advantage to further the ends of a greedy man. Lord Conrad vowed to stop the caravan and return the supplies to those who needed them most – the peasants from whom they were taken.

A mercenary by the name of Reif led the band who defended the caravan. Though they fought fiercely, all but Reif himself were laid low. Reif cowardly ran off and abandoned his comrades when the fortunes of battle turned against them. After the fight, Lord Conrad returned to Trinsic and distributed the supplies amongst the people there.

What exactly is happening amongst the virtue guards, and between them and Lord Conrad? Should we applaud Lord Conrad and seek the identity of the mysterious official? Is their strife or corruption deep within the virtue guards? Or is this all a case of misdirection as Conrad himself supplies a band of ruffians? Only time shall shed new light on this. I, for one, will keep an eye on these developments.

“Justice Guard Attacks Caravan!”

Submitted to Player-sponsored News sites on Saturday, April 18, 1998 by Nobody

Last night my guild, Britannia Search & Rescue, accompanied Lord Conrad, the Justice Guard, and some others in an attack on a caravan loaded with stolen supplies. While details of this exciting event have made it into the Town Cryer (Latest news: "LOCAL: Caravan of War Supplies Ambushed") some of this article contains blatantly false misinformation.

It is true that the Justice Guards were in our first wave of attack, and that the contraband was stolen from innocent peasants. The attack was fierce and brutal, some died and some were looted, with the red-armored leader of the mercenaries escaping at the end. Lord Conrad even lost some Notoriety defending the pack horses from horse killers. What is not true is that Lord Conrad did not redistribute the stolen goods back among the Jhelom peasants. Black Widow, an officer in the BS&R, followed Lord Conrad after the battle, after Conrad said he no longer need our aid. He returned to his home in Trinsic, where he went inside, pack horses, goods, and all, and set about to retire for the night. Black Widow confronted him and questioned his true motivations, as some are concerned that Lord Conrad would acquisition the supplies for his zealot's war against the Virtue Guard.

He was upset, concerned that his motives were questioned, then transferred the pack horses to Black Widow, telling her that she return the goods. She took on this responsibility, distributed what was needed back to the farmer she found from where the theft originally occurred, then travelled the world giving away all else that was retaken in the battle. Every cent, crumb, and crate were given to the people of Britannia--pack horses and all.

The Virtues offer us checks and balances. Lord Conrad, in his extreme devotion to Justice, may need to refresh his relationship to some other Virtues, like Compassion and Honesty. The BS&R shall endeavor to assist him in his lessons.
